About Neon

Products and scope

Postgres, authentication, Data API, functions, object storage and an AI gateway. Free, Launch and Scale are organization-level plans. Neon separates persistent database storage from compute that can scale or suspend. That changes the cost calculation for a project used intermittently: inactive compute can stop accruing compute usage, while retained storage still has a bill. Branches help separate database changes and environments, but extra branches, replicas and retained history are not the same resource. A useful estimate starts with the running time and compute size of each active database, then adds storage and recovery history. Application hosting remains separate; connecting a website to Neon does not deploy its frontend or background workers. For a production service, consider how reconnecting after suspension fits your application and whether you need compute kept available. The free tier’s allowances are bounded, so plan for its limit behavior rather than assuming it provides an unlimited database for a growing application.

Billing and pricing

Launch compute lists US$0.106 per CU-hour; Scale lists US$0.222. Paid database storage lists US$0.35 per GB-month. These are metered units, not a fixed monthly server rental. Other services and retained history can add costs.

Regions and availability

Check the available project regions and any private-networking requirements before choosing a deployment.

Support

Free uses community support; Launch includes billing support. Scale offers additional support options.

Before you buy

Free compute suspends after five minutes of inactivity, and paid compute can use different scale-to-zero settings. Compute units are not dedicated CPUs.
